Blow Up Percussion is an ensemble of percussionists born in 2012 in Rome. On the one hand it interprets the modern and contemporary repertoire, on the other it offers innovations born from collaborations with composers, groups and musicians of different origins.

Among the collaborations: the composers F. Filidei, V. Montalti, B.Dessner, C. Cerrone, L.Durupt, F.Antonioni, M.Tadini, E.Nathan; the ensembles PMCE and Prometeo, the London duo Plaid, the cellist Mario Brunello.

From the twentieth century repertoire, the ensemble is characterized by the interpretation of the works of Steve Reich and the post-minimalists David Lang, Julia Wolfe, John Luther Adams.

In 2017 the first album was released with songs by Ravera, Filidei, Taglietti, Sanna and Marchettini, in 2020 a monographic work on the young American composer Elliot Cole, both for EMA Vinci Record.

With Vittorio Montalti he created “The Smell of Blue Electricity” for percus- sion quartet and electronics, a long-term work on the relationship between electronics and performers. The album of this work was released by Col Leg- no in 2023.

Since 2019, Blow Up has also organized the “Cerimoniali Ritmici” exhibition where the ensemble together with other musicians proposes various novel- ties commissioned for the occasion together with works from recent years, opening up an overview of the different musical aesthetics of our time.

The group performed at the Romaeuropa Festival, Ravenna Festival, GRAME Lyon, MITO, MA/IN, Tempo Reale, Nuova Consonanza, Cantiere Internaziona- le D’Arte, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, L’Arsenale, Traiettorie, Jeans Music Festival, Contemporanea, In my Life, Le Forme del Suono, NO GO, Composit, Half-Die, Fondazione “W. Blow Up Percussion è un ensemble di percussionisti nato nel 2012 a Roma. Da un lato si fa interprete del repertorio moderno e contemporaneo dall’altro propone novità nate da collaborazioni con compositori, gruppi e musicisti di diverse provenienze.

Tra le collaborazioni : i compositori F. Filidei, V. Montalti, B.Dessner, C. Cerrone, L.Durupt, F.Antonioni, M.Tadini, E.Nathan; gli ensemble PMCE e Prometeo, il duo londinese Plaid, il violoncellista Mario Brunello.

Del repertorio del Novecento, l’ensemble si è caratterizzato per l’interpretazione delle opere di Steve Reich e dei post-minimalisti David Lang, Julia Wolfe, John Luther Adams.

Nel 2017 è uscito il primo album con brani di Ravera, Filidei, Taglietti, Sanna e Marchettini, nel 2020 un’opera monografica sul giovane compositore statunitense Elliot Cole, entrambi per EMA Vinci Record.

Con Vittorio Montalti ha realizzato “The Smell of Blue Electricity” per quartetto di percussioni ed elettronica , un’opera di lungo respiro sul rapporto tra elettronica e performer. Il disco di questo lavoro è uscito per Col Legno nel 2023.

Dal 2019 Blow Up organizza inoltre la rassegna “Cerimoniali Ritmici” dove l’ensemble insieme ad altri musicisti propone diverse novità commissionate per l’occasione insieme a opere degli ultimi anni aprendo una finestra sulle diverse estetiche musicali del nostro tempo.
